I am hoping to graduate from Arizona State University in 2020 to become a music
educator. I would like to teach band to middle school and junior high. I always knew that I wanted to become a teacher, but I did not know in what area until I found my passion for music. I also want to teach private lessons on my primary instrument, clarinet. Someday I want to teach high school, but not after teaching middle school and junior high for a while.
The reason why I want to teach middle school and junior high band is because I want them to be prepared for high school. I did not have the greatest experience in band which almost caused me to quit band completely. I want them to learn how to read music, read rhythms, how to play their instruments, and make music so that they do not struggle in the future. Young people can do all of that and also learn how to be good people if their educators push them and believe in them. I am willing to stay after school or during my lunch to help my kids become better people and better musicians.
